The Rollin Art Centre's next Tea on the Terrace event is Thursday, July 26, with musical guest Dennis Olsen. With a performance featuring Latin, popular standards and classic hits, Olsen is playing everything from Cole Porter through to Carlos Santana, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin....


Sewers at care home making 10,000 bunting flags for hospice

RESIDENTS and staff at a care home in Abingdon are attempting to sew a 'Mile of Memories' to raise funds for Sobell House hospice. Bags of donated fabric with special meaning attached were fashioned into thousands of flags to form nearly a mile of bunting at Bridge House on Friday during a marathon sewing session that lasted from 10am until 5pm....


Children get into the spirit of Matariki by sewing gloves and making scarfs

Many of the children who came to the workshop on Tuesday had not used a sewing machine before, and Palmerston North City Library programmes team leader Elise Goodge said the activities were designed with this in mind. We get a lot of kids who have never used a sewing machine before, so we wanted to keep the pattern and the shape quite simple for them, but still have a cool garment at the end of it, she said....

Kathy E. Federation never set out to be a textile artist and furniture whisperer, but she said a long family history of tailoring and sewing has landed her where she is today, in West Potsdam, making an art of upholstery. Mrs. Federation, owner of Kathy's Custom Upholstery, located at 1883 County Route 35, has been bringing family heirlooms, antique furniture and common couches back to life for almost 20 years....
