Takara Tomy announced various new products and exhibited prototypes at the 63rd All Japan Model Hobby Show in 2025, but the most eye-catching announcement was the TRANSFORMERS OVERGEAR. Two prototypes were exhibited this time: Blackout, which transforms from a helicopter, and Ironhide, which transforms from an armored vehicle.

Two prototypes were on display: "Blackout," which transforms from a helicopter, and "Ironhide," which transforms from an armored vehicle. "TRANSFORMERS OVERGEAR" is said to be a "new series of realistic concepts." It features vehicle forms that resemble actual helicopters and armored vehicles, as well as robot forms that incorporate extremely detailed mechanical depictions. It's clear that a lot of effort has been put into the modeling and transformation systems. This time it was just an exhibition, and specific information will be forthcoming, but we were able to hear from the person in charge about what is known at the moment and what to look out for.

In "TRANSFORMERS OVERGEAR," the vehicle forms actively emphasize the atmosphere of actual vehicles, like a "model." For example, the helicopter form of the "Blackout" incorporates the essence of attack helicopters such as the Apache, with a canopy shape and silhouette that likely contains two cockpits for the gunner and pilot. While incorporating the essence of various attack helicopters, such as Hind-like wings on both sides of the fuselage suspending missile pods, huge rotors, and a radar unit in the center of the rotors, it is also composed of elements that resemble real military helicopters.

Vehicle form that feels as realistic as a real military helicopter On the other hand, the robot form is depicted with much finer details. The joints are finely divided, and there are molds like exhaust ducts, the joint axes are expressed, and the mechanics seem to be exposed. At the same time, it also has elements of a hero robot, such as the wings of the vehicle form extending from the shoulders and protrusions growing from the knees. It is said that the design gives it a sense of character as a Transformer.

The knees have protrusions like those of an anime robot.

The rotor is placed on the back Ironhide's vehicle form is a powerful armored car with four rear wheels. It has the feel of a real car modified for combat rather than a military vehicle. The glass is covered with armor, and the rear of the car is extended with a loading platform, to which a super-sized minigun-like weapon is strapped.

The robot form is arranged in such a way that the front of the vehicle splits into two halves, with the head emerging from the front. It also features an engine-like design, and rather than a smart transformation, it has a somewhat rough feel, as if a real car has been forcibly transformed into a robot. The minigun is located behind the waist in the prototype, but it can also be held with the muzzle pointed forward.

This looks more like a regular car modified for combat than a military vehicle.

The minigun is positioned so that it can be operated from the loading platform.

Ironhide's design is typical of a land combat robot.

The weapons in his hands are similar to those of real army infantry.

It has a giant minigun on its back. "TRANSFORMERS OVERGEAR" has a vehicle form that feels closer to real vehicles than previous "Transformers" and features detailed mechanical depictions, but it is also designed to allow for play that combines with the previous series, such as by providing 5mm holes for mounting weapons, so having a collection will greatly expand the range of play.

Not only Ironhide's minigun, but Blackout's weapon, which appears to be a realistic attack helicopter at first glance, also has a large rifle-like weapon placed underneath it, giving it a "Transformer-like" feel. Blackout's giant rotors move behind it, and it is suggested that viewers take a closer look at the prototype to see how the parts move and imagine what kind of transformation it will undergo, and wait for further information.
